Sure, you could still read about the Miami trip, but what if you just couldn't get away? Well, don't worry, because half of us here know how you feel. Much like the runners-up on American Idol, we have to sit and watch all the fun from afar. But we'll show 'em. We're gonna do stuff too.

Sunday, December 7th is our closing night for Liz Brown: OMGWTF. If you haven't had a chance, be sure to visit us to see this fantastic show. And if you have, stop in again, because we might have a few surprises for you.

Then on Friday, December 12th, we've got opening night for It's A Small World. This group show focuses on the little side of art, mixing sculptures, limited edition prints and other artwork, all in the 11"x17" range. Our artists are attempting to use this restriction to cut right to the meat of the work, leaving pieces that remind one of "fun size" Halloween candy (or perhaps we should say haiku). We expect you'll be pleased, and hope you'll be there.

Finally, Friday, December 19th at 8:00pm will see our Hold Me Closer Tiny Dinner Cocktail Party. We'll tell you more about this soon. Just start planning now.

So if you're in Miami, stop by Booth 473 at Scope and tell our weary travelers that everything is fine back home. But if you're still in town, feel free to visit us at the gallery. The cats aren't going to be gone forever, you know, and us mice want some fun of our own!

Day One – Thwarted by a Theremin

Bye bye, Brooklyn!

This be the first day of the voyage of good ship “Penske” and after many hard-won battles and salty misadventures we find ourselves adrift in the dark doldrums of New Jersey –bound for SCOPE and Bridge Miami.


The gallery was awash in crates and priceless rolls of bubble wrap. Would it all fit? Would our truck-sharing friends at the Hogar Collection leave us marooned when they saw the sheer volume of art we were taking to Miami? Would the truck buckle on a back road in the middle of South Carolina? Who knew!



Nah. Our good friend Todd helped to load our craft, Then awesome First Mate Marty showed up with an unexpected bounty of socket wrenches and shiny new cordless drills. Sweet.

At the Hogar Collection, we were boarded and taken hostage by a pirate. He made us walk the plank, but saved us from the sharks that infested the Grand Street Sea’s asphalty waters. We called it even and promised that next time he could drive the ship.

And back to Like the Spice! We readied ourselves for an uncharacteristically early departure, called hands to deck, opened our sodas, and would have been on our way –

But for the theremin.

For reasons that we can’t go into, the better part of an hour was spent waiting for the appearance of a theremin. So much for our early start. By the time it finally, finally got there we were well over our scheduled departure time. The theremin is trapped in the back of the truck now, probably plotting its next move.

But we don't care! We're in beautiful, beautiful New Jersey!

Organic.

And on our way to Baltimore... stay tuned for further adventures!

This Friday Two Girls, One Truck - Like the Spice gets going, first stop Baltimore Maryland for a pit stop with a LTS buddy Turned on Tara. Then on to Scope Art Fair, Miami, booth # 473! More pits stops for unloading of others art (mainly Hogar Collection, and to wave lovingly at Greene Contemporary) at Aqua Miami, then the posh Bridge Miami beach Room #209 for LTS and Dylan Peet's co-curation, and then lastly but not least Bridge Wynwood home of the Williamsburg Gallery Association booth...
Stay tuned for road blogging as Like the Spice heads south with one speaker blaring, a learners permit, and a whole bunch of granola bars.

Brooklyn hosted a bunch of openings in Williamsburg on Friday including this show at Like The Spice by Liz Brown titled OMGWTF. The show exhibited many new works by the artist revolving around a whimsical narrative set in outer space, at retro retail establishments and twisted movie sets. The work is solid and painted with a rigid edge creating a shiny like-new feeling that directly ties into the title of the show... Witty sense of sarcasm much? Anyway, get down to Like the Spice and check out this great little show before it closes December 7th.

This is a unique opportunity to explore Nicole Stager's work at MEGU restaurant, located at 62 Thomas St, New York, NY 10013, courtesy of Like the Spice Gallery. Taking literally the meaning of photography - drawing with light - Stager makes her elegant works in the darkroom, drawing some with handheld light sources, some using found objects as three dimensional negatives.
Emotionally evocative yet inherently mysterious, Stager's work sits at the crossroads of several different artistic practices. In a process that combines the specificity of the photograph as document with the aesthetic history of abstract painting through the performative manipulation of light and color in real time, Stager induces a kind of trans-media synthesis rarely seen in work that is so simple in its beauty. Time, color, shape, and line are all uniquely presented in Stager's work.
The uncertainty about true sources allows for a work that may remind one viewer of a childhood memory, another of a song from last summer, and another of the smell of burning leaves. Are the colored circles in a given work burns? Drops of blood? Streetlamps? They could be any of the above, or none.


Art, music, images, performance, and dreams. Contaminate New York City with us. Put into play all the different art forms that you know as well as your enthusiasm. We create events, situations, and moments where we can exchange our feelings, ideals, and ideas, where we can be involved and captured by all the art types that surround us. In our events we combine visuals, sounds, scents, sensations, and flavors that generate simultaneous interactions and unexpected yet pleasant surprises. This is our philosophy, a movement that emerges from the depth of our hearts, whose purpose is not to criticize, denounce, or protest but to give space to those who choose and feel the need to express themselves through art.
