Buenvenidos a miami!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fountain Art Fair Miami 2007
Featuring 14 Brooklyn and Miami based Galleries
2841 NW 2nd Ave Wynwood Arts Distrcit Miami FL (corner of NW 29th St by the Rubell Family Collection)
December 6 - 9, 2007
Reception for the artists: Friday, December 7th from 7pm until midnight
www.fountainexhibit.com

The avant-garde has always laid claim to history through its challenges and victories over the status quo. In 1917, at the unjuried Society of Artists exhibition, Marcel Duchamp unveiled the world’s most famous ready-made art object: “Fountain”. It is in this spirit of the unexpected that some of Williamsburg, Brooklyn’s most forward-thinking and cutting-edge galleries have collaborated to present "Fountain Miami." The exhibition will make its mark in a massive 5000 square foot warehouse at: 2841 NW 2nd Avenue in the Wynwood Gallery District, in close proximity to various other international art fairs, the Rubell Family Collection and many local galleries. Fountian Art Fair will run Thursday Dec 6th until Sunday December 9th with a press brunch preview on Thursday morning Dec 6th at 9am until 11am and a reception for the artists on Friday Dec 7th from 7pm until midnight.

"Fountain Miami" is a guerrilla-style art fair - under the radar, but highly influential. "Fountain" was launched in March 2006 in New York, in an effort to leverage support for independent galleries largely overlooked by corporate-sponsored art fairs. In defiant contrast with both Art Basel Miami Beach, Pulse, Scope and the slew of other International art fairs, "Fountain" has received wide public support and critical acclaim for its independent slant. This independent aspect gives Fountain its edge: young galleries showcasing fresh work without official booth spaces or selection committee juries. In form and spirit, the artwork shown truly reflects the avant-garde and in-your-face attitude equated with the Dada movement.

Fountain Miami is currently featuring the galleries: Ad Hoc, Bipolart, Buenas Artes, Capla Kesting Fine Art, Front Room Gallery, Steven Gagnon, Gitana Rosa, Glowlab, Grace Exhibition Space, Like The Spice, McCaig-Welles Gallery, Miguel Paredes, VertexList and Yum Yum Factory.

Come and experience the unfiltered, uncouth and enterprising excitement of Fountain. See advanced art as it was meant to be seen – without blinders, without “taste merchants" – straight from the source.

"Defined as “New Urban American,” the regularly-changing menu is based on simple, fresh ingredients borrowing elements from the multitude of cultures that glitter across the New York cityscape. There is clearly a love for and sensibility to the preparation of all things vegetal, due largely to Camille’s post-culinary school odyssey among vegetarian and macrobiotic master chefs. Sometimes the vegetarian specials are the best thing on the menu. Rather than aiming at the usual fusion, Paloma takes a stab at deconstructionism; for example, a traditional dish like bouillabaisse might be broken down to its basic elements and then served as a filet of monkfish, a single perfect shrimp and a flower of potatoes decorated with a bouillabaisse sauce. On the other hand, one can find a fresh brook trout simply grilled and served with a side dish of the diner’s choosing. Simple and thoughtful is the rule." www.nyc.com

TABITHA VS. The Art Dog World

James Wagner Writes:

Although it took a few minutes of walking about the space and talking to Martin, probably the sweetest gallery dog in New York, I eventually became so taken with this work that I found it very difficult to leave. That doesn't happen very often, no matter how much I like a show.

Oly Writes:

He is pretty sweet.
(isn't he a cross between a German Shepherd and a Welsh Corgi or something??)
But I have to say that Tabitha, the Beagle pupster, at Like the Spice is pretty darn precious herself.

There should be a whole page devoted to gallery animals-- that would be great.

OK Oly, not only will we devote a page to my dear Tabitha but she just barked BRING IT ON
Post any and all gallery dog, cat, hamster, or goldfish photos within the comments of this blog and we'll let the general public vote!

xoxo Tabitha and the Like the Spice crew.

P.S. No dog or cat with baby pics, Todd & Melissa, thats cheating!

P.S.S. This is the perfect time to unveil our next group show at Like the Spice Gallery, opening Saturday December 15th, Deer Art: animal imagery in contemporary art. Animals seem to be everywhere in the art world right now....you can't spit at an art fair without hitting two deers, a bear and probably a sasquatch....there seems to be an urgency to animal and nature imagery right now. This mixed media group show will cement on the relationships between anthropomorphic animals/animals-as-people and animals as symbols of nature in kitch, spiritual, and noble ways.
