The Collector's Dinner on Friday night was a great evening of intelligent discussion on the art market, the state of art criticism and the effects of capitalism on artists in America. Hrag Vartanian spoke about the evolution of art criticism since the eighteenth-century salon through contemporary arts-blogging. Nicholas Forrest...appearing via the internet gave a video talk on the state and future of the art market, the effects of the American economy on the art economy and the development of art-as-investment. The food was amazing as always, this time catered by Paloma...one of our Brooklyn favorites.

Hrag had this to say about our dinners.....

I’m plugging this Friday night event for three reasons:

1. It’s a great monthly event I blogged about a few months back;
2. I’m honored to be one of two speakers that night, the other being Nicholas Forrest of the Art Market Blog who will be joining in virtually;
3. The “Flip” show on display is worth checking out; and
4. I want to make sure that this series continues forever.

So come out this Friday March 28 (8pm) to Like the Spice in Williamsburg for a great dinner and some thoughtful discussion. Reservations are required, so email in your RSVP.

If you want to know what I’ll be speaking about: Art Blogging in the Context of the Evolution of Art Criticism.
